Things I Thought I Knew at 25 (But Was Completely Wrong About)

When I was 25, I honestly thought I had life figured out.

I believed that by a certain age, I would have all the answers.

A clear career.

A perfect relationship.

A perfect plan for the future.

Life had other ideas.

Looking back now, I smile at some of the things I believed back then.

I thought growing older would mean becoming completely confident.

The truth is, confidence doesn't suddenly appear.

It grows slowly through experience, mistakes and learning to accept yourself.

I also believed that everyone would like me if I was kind enough.

That turned out not to be true.

One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that you simply can't please everyone—and that's perfectly okay.

I used to think that changing your life had to happen all at once.

A new job.

A healthier lifestyle.

A completely different routine.

Now I know that real change happens through small choices repeated over time.

One healthy meal.

One workout.

One blog post.

One step forward.

I also thought success meant having more.

More money.

More possessions.

More achievements.

Today, I measure success very differently.

Success is having peace of mind.

Success is spending time with the people and animals I love.

Success is doing work that makes me proud and building a life that feels meaningful.

At 25, I worried far too much about what other people thought of me.

Now I realise that the opinions that matter most are my own and those of the people who truly care about me.

Another thing I never expected was that I would still be learning so much in my forties.

I honestly believed that by then, life would be completely figured out.

Instead, I discovered that life never stops teaching you new lessons.

And maybe that's the beautiful part.

You never stop growing.

If I could sit down with my 25-year-old self today, I wouldn't tell her to change everything.

I would simply tell her:

"Be patient.

Keep believing in yourself.

Don't be afraid to make mistakes.

The life you're building will look different than you imagine...

...but it will still become your story."

Looking back, I don't regret who I was.

She did the best she could with what she knew at the time.

And because of her, I became the woman I am today.

I may not have all the answers yet.

But I know one thing for sure.

Life isn't about knowing everything.

It's about never stopping learning.

Love,

Shavida
