Every time I visit Morocco, I discover something new.

I've been there several times now, and although some things have become familiar, there are still moments that surprise me. These aren't complaints. They're simply the little things that make Morocco different from the Netherlands and part of what makes the country so interesting to me.

Here are ten things that still surprise me every time I visit.

1. The Incredible Hospitality

Moroccan hospitality is something special.

Whether you're visiting family, friends or even someone you've only just met, you're often welcomed with tea, food and genuine kindness. Making guests feel at home is clearly an important part of the culture.

2. Mint Tea Is More Than Just a Drink

In Morocco, mint tea isn't simply something you drink.

It's part of everyday life.

Whether you're celebrating, visiting family or just sitting together, tea is almost always served. It's a way of slowing down and enjoying each other's company.

3. Life Starts Early

One thing I always notice is how early many people start their day.

Shops open, people are already outside, and the streets slowly come to life while the temperatures are still pleasant.

4. Fresh Food Is Everywhere

I love seeing the local markets.

Fresh vegetables, fruit, herbs, olives and spices are sold everywhere.

Cooking with fresh ingredients feels completely normal there.

5. Cats Are Everywhere

As an animal lover, this is something I notice immediately.

Cats can be found in almost every town and village.

Some are cared for by local people, while others live independently. I always end up stopping to say hello to a few of them.

6. The Mountains Are Breathtaking

Many people think of Morocco as deserts and busy cities.

But I spend a lot of time in the mountains, and the scenery is absolutely beautiful.

The peace, the fresh air and the views never get old.

7. Time Feels Different

Life often feels less rushed.

People take time to sit together, have conversations and enjoy a cup of tea.

It's a nice reminder that not everything has to happen in a hurry.

8. Every Region Has Its Own Character

No two places feel exactly the same.

Each region has its own traditions, landscapes, food and atmosphere.

That's one of the reasons I keep enjoying my visits.

9. The Smell of Fresh Bread

One of my favourite things is the smell of freshly baked bread.

You notice it in villages, neighbourhoods and local bakeries.

It's one of those smells that immediately makes me think of Morocco.

10. Every Trip Teaches Me Something New

No matter how many times I return, I always learn something.

About the country.

About the culture.

And sometimes, about myself.

That's what keeps every visit interesting.

Final Thoughts

Morocco is a country full of contrasts, traditions and beautiful landscapes.

Every visit gives me new memories and new stories to tell.

And although some things still surprise me, that's exactly what makes travelling so enjoyable.

You never stop learning when you keep an open mind.

Love,

Shavida
