If you thought the Carolina Reaper was already unbelievably spicy, think again. A new pepper has taken the title of the world's hottest chili: Pepper X.
Created by Ed Currie, founder of the famous PuckerButt Pepper Company, Pepper X is the result of more than twelve years of careful breeding. Ed Currie is also the creator of the Carolina Reaper, which held the Guinness World Record for years before Pepper X claimed the top spot.
Pepper X reaches an astonishing 2.69 million Scoville Heat Units (SHU). To put that into perspective, the Carolina Reaper averages around 1.64 million SHU. That makes Pepper X one of the most intense peppers ever created.
According to Ed Currie, tasting Pepper X is an experience you won't forget anytime soon. He has described feeling an intense burning sensation for about three hours, followed by stomach discomfort that can last for another four hours. It's certainly not a challenge for everyone.
As someone who enjoys discovering unique foods from around the world, I find peppers like this fascinating. I enjoy a little spice in my meals, but I honestly think Pepper X would be far too hot for me. Sometimes it's fun to read about extreme foods without actually trying them!
Whether you're a chili lover or simply curious, Pepper X is an incredible example of how far pepper breeding has come. It proves that people are always looking for the next exciting challenge, even if it comes with an unforgettable amount of heat.
So, here's my question for you: Would you dare to taste the world's hottest pepper?
Love, Shavida
